We all know a large white is not your skin's best friend. While it might nourish a great night out, alcohol dehydrates your skin, depletes its nutrients and can leave you looking duller than a scuffed beermat the day after.

But if you want to see just how much your weekly booze intake could affect your looks in years to come, download the Drinking Mirror app (£0.69) and let it do its thing. I used it to see what my face would look like in 10 years' time if I drink 10 glasses of wine a week. (Okay, sounds like a lot but with Christmas coming it's pretty easy to do!) The results, I think you'll agree, are pretty shocking: bloodshot eyes, rosacea, burst blood vessels, excessive wrinkles around the eyes and a bloated, puffy face suggesting weight gain.

What Stress Is Doing To Your Face

Healthista editor Anna Magee worked with forensic artist Auriole Prince to get a picture

– literally –

of what her face will look like in ten years if she remains under her current levels of stress

Drinking Mirror is a mobile app that illustrates how alcohol consumption can really speed up the aging process. Released earlier this year as part of the Scottish government's Drop a Glass Size campaign, the app allows users to upload or take a photo of themselves, enter their weekly boozing habits and see what they could look like in ten years. And the results are just as scary as this image of a truck driver with sun damage on the left side of his face. We're talking forehead wrinkles, bloodshot eyes and saggy jowls.

Is alcohol aging YOU? Deep wrinkles, red skin andchubby cheeks... new app shows the long-term effects alcohol has on looks - and it's not a pretty sight

Whether it's meeting up with friends for cocktails after work, enjoying a drink with an evening meal or having a glass of wine at home to unwind after a busy day, modern women are consuming more alcohol than ever. Many regularly exceed the government's daily drinking guidelines of 2-3 units a day which, as well as putting their health at risk, also means they are in danger of looking beyond their years due to the effects long-term drinking can have on the appearance. To bring the warning home, an app has been developed where women can look in a 'drinking mirror' and see how they will look in years to come if they over-indulge now.

What damage is sugar really doing to our SKIN? Experts digitally modify face of sweet-toothed woman, 22, to see how she'll fare in 10 years

We called on genetic imaging specialist, Auriole Prince, to edit an image of two of our writers - one sugar addict and one woman who avoids sugar - to see what effect our diets could have on our looks in ten years' time.
